Nilachal is located at the entrance of Bandarban district and is one of the most beautiful places in Bangladesh to visit. It is only five kilometres away from Bandarban town. Nilachal Tourist Centre is stationed at a height of 2,000 feet above sea level. The entire town of Bandarban can be seen from Nilachal. At that height, a cold wind usually blows all the time. Clouds always play here. You can touch the clouds. So, tourists crowd the Nilachal all year round.

You can tour to Bandarban from Dhaka by bus. Chander Gari and CNG-run auto-rickshaws are available at the Hill Bird area in Bandarban town to go to Nilachal.

Nilgiri

Nilgiri is located about 47-km south-east from Bandarban district town along the Bandarban-Thanchi road at an altitude of about 2,200 feet above sea level. There is an opportunity to touch the clouds at Nilgiri. So, it is termed as the land of clouds. You can enjoy the surrounding green hills, the Sangu River at the bottom, and the moving clouds. In one moment, moving clouds encircle you and the next moment, they go far away to another mountain. The scenes of sunrises and sunsets in the Nilgiri during the dry season are spectacular. Nilgiri Hill Resort is located on the Nilgiri Hills, maintained by the Bangladesh Army.

You can go to Bandarban by bus. You can hire a jeep from there to move to Nilgiri.

How to go

You can go directly from Dhaka to Dighinala in Khagrachhari by bus. The distance from Khagrachhari district headquarters to Sajek is about 70 km and 49 km from Dighinala. Sajek can be reached by boat from Rangamati via Kaptai. From Khagrachhari, you can also go to Sajek Valley via Dighinala, Baghaighat. Although Sajek is located in the Rangamati district, its transportation facility is available from Khagrachhari. From Khagrachhari town or Dighinala by local vehicles is currently the easiest and most popular means of going to Sajek. The jeeps going to Sajek are locally known as ‘Chander Gari’.

Khagrachhari

Khagrachhari is another popular beautiful destination. It has also mesmerizing landscapes, vibrant culture, and lifestyles. This remote hilly district is 112-km from Chattogram. Khagrachhari is an amazing place to enjoy views from the top of the high hills, forest, and waterfalls. The 18-km long beach is located in Latachapli union under Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali district. Manpura Landing Station, located 500 meters inside the Meghna River, is thronged by local people and tourists from afternoon to night. To go to Manpura Island, you have to board the launch from Dhaka’s Sadarghat. Besides, one can reach Manpura Island by C-Truck from Bhola by road from Dhaka to Tajumuddin Ghat.

The largest mangrove forest in the world is in Sundarbans. It has been developed in Bangladesh’s Khulna, Satkhira, Barguna, Bagerhat, Patuakhali, and some parts of India. UNESCO has recognised it as a World Heritage Site for mangrove forests. This wonderful forest is home to a variety of wildlife and plants. Sundari trees grow here in abundance. Sundarbans is the main habitat of the Royal Bengal Tiger.

How to go

You can directly travel to the Sundarbans from Dhaka by road via Padma Bridge. Launches and small ships are the only means of exploring all its sights in the Sundarbans.

Jaflong, Sylhet

Jaflong is located in Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet and the best tourist destination in Bangladesh. It lies at the foothills of the Khasi-Jainta Hills bordering Meghalaya, India. It is a famous place for tourists. At Jaflong, there is a Dawki Suspension Bridge of India. The bridge serves as a gateway between India and Bangladesh. Along with mountain springs, there are rock and fountain waters in Jaflong. Other places to see in Jaflong include Lalakhal, Tamabil, and Jaintapur.

How to go

You can travel to Sylhet by bus, train, and air from Dhaka. To go to Jaflong, you have to come to Sylhet, the land of tea. The distance between Jaflong and Sylhet is about 60 kilometers, and so, you can go to Jaflong by bus, CNG, Laguna, or microbus.

Ratargul is one of the rarest sweet-water swamp forests in the world and the best tourist place in Bangladesh. Ratargul is located along the Gowain River under the Fathepur union in Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet district. This is a natural forest from the Gowain River up to the Chengir Canal. It is approximately 26 kilometers away from Sylhet city.

Ratargul Swamp Forest is compared with the Sundarbans of Khulna. This picturesque forest can also be compared with the Amazon. All the trees of Ratargul Swamp Forest remain underwater for four to six months in a year.  You can traverse across the river by a boat. The chirping of birds and pitter-patter of raindrops on the leaves will enchant you. It is truly a serene experience amid nature. The occasional sightings of snakes will fill you with awe for the vastness of Mother Nature.

A wide variety of wild animals and birds roam in the branches of trees of the Ratargul Swamp Forest. There are as many as seventy-three species of plants in the forest. Pithali, Arjuna, Chatim, Guti jam, Hijal, Karach, Varun, Murta, Cane, and Bot trees are some of them. Various types of snakes are also seen here. There are monkeys, water monitors, reptiles, mongooses, herons, water-fowls, egrets, kingfishers, parrots, swans, ducks, doves, bulbuls, pigeons, kites, hawks and vultures.

During the monsoon and post-monsoon season – July to October – is the best season to visit this swamp forest.

How to go

You can reach the forest from Dhaka by air, train, or bus up to Sylhet town. Then you can go to the spot by local bus. Local buses are available from Kadamtoli Bus Stand to Ratargul Swamp Forest. However, you can go to Ratargul within a very short time from Sylhet through Khadim Tea Estate and Khadimnagar National Park. You have to hire an engine-run local boat, commonly known as a trawler, to visit the swamp forest.

Malnichhera Tea Estate, Sylhet

The Malnichhera Tea Estate is the largest and first established tea garden in the subcontinent. The tea garden was built on 1,500 acres of land under the supervision of Lord Hudson in 1849. The tea garden has become a favorite place for tourists.

How to go

You have to go to Sylhet first from Dhaka by bus, train or plane. After that, you can easily go to Malnichhera Tea Estate by riding a rickshaw or CNG-run auto-rickshaw from anywhere in the city.

Lawachhara National Park, Moulvibazar

This reserved forest area of 1,250 hectares is located in Kamalganj and partially in Srimangal in Moulvibazar district. It is known as the tropical rainforest of the country. This national park is a unique sign of aesthetic beauty, full of biodiversity. Lawachhara is home to 460 species of rare plants, 20 species of mammals, 6 species of reptiles, and 240 species of birds. The beauty of the forest can be seen very closely while trekking.

One can travel from Dhaka to Moulvibazar by train or bus to reach Lawachhara.

Sreemangal

Green tea fields make Sreemangal a very beautiful and tourist natural place in Bangladesh. It is situated in the Moulvibazar district of Sylhet division. Sreemangal, known as the tea capital of Bangladesh, is also popular with tourists for Madhabpur Lake and Baikka Beel. Lawachara Rain Forest, Hum Hum Waterfall, and Rema-Kalenga Wildlife Sanctuary are very close to Sreemangal.

How to go

You can travel to Srimangal easily by train or bus from Dhaka.

Panam Nagar, Narayanganj

Panam Nagar, also known as Panam City, is located at Sonargaon in Narayanganj. Panam Nagar covers an area of 20 square kilometers. It is also popularly known as the Lost City. The distance from Dhaka to Panam Nagar is about 43 km. Places to visit around Panam Nagar are the Folk and Crafts Museum, Goaldi Mosque, Bara Nagar, and Khas Nagar.

There are a total of 52 colonial buildings on both sides of Panam Nagar. They still stand as a piece of history.

How to go

You can visit Panam Nagar by bus, private car, or microbus from Dhaka. From Sonargaon Mograpara intersection of Dhaka-Chattogram highway, you can go to Panam Nagar from Mograpara by auto-rickshaw.

Sonargaon Folk Art and Crafts Museum

Sonargaon is about 26 kilometers from Dhaka. On March 12, 1975, Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin established the Bangladesh Folk and Crafts Foundation to preserve the culture and folk arts of rural Bangladesh.

There are Sardar Bari, Zainul Abedin Historical Struggle Sculpture, Bangabandhu Historical Speech Bust Sculpture, Zainul Abedin Sculpture, Zainul Abedin Memorial Museum, and Crafts Village.

How to go

You can go to Sonargaon from anywhere in Dhaka by bus or car. You will go Mograpara bus stand. Then you can go to the museum by CNG-run auto-rickshaw.

Susang Durgapur is located in Netrokona district, about 170 km north from Dhaka. It is blessed by charismatic natural beauty. Susang Durgapur, a piece of heaven, is a beautiful land of river, lake, forest and hillocks. It will surely win a prize for its scenic natural beauty which is very unique in the world.

Sada Matir Pahar’ (Hill of China Clay) is located at Bijoypur of Birisiri in the upazila. It is also known as white mud hill. Due to its unique pinkish colour, the hill looks different from regular ones. The calm and quiet area is known for the beauty of the Someshwari River.

Susang Durgapur is also rich in ethnic culture. Many ethnic groups like – Hajong, Garo, Achik and Mandi, etc. live here. There is an ethnic museum at Birisiri of Susang Durgapur. It offers insight into the history, traditions, languages, and culture of the various tribes in the area.

How to go

You can visit Netrokona by bus from Dhaka’s Mohakhali and by train from Kamalapur Railway Station or Airport Station. Then, you can take an auto-rickshaw or motorcycle to reach Susang Durgapur.
